中島健郎さんと平出和也さんという二人の偉大な登山家が、私たちのもとを去りました。国内外の報道で広く伝えられているように、二人はK2西壁未踏ルートを登攀中に滑落し、そのニュースは私たちに計り知れない悲しみをもたらしました。
彼らは、日本を代表するアルパインクライマーとして数々の偉業を成し遂げ、その功績は世界中の登山家から尊敬を集めてきました。中島健郎さんは、その生涯を通じて未踏峰への挑戦を続け、2017年には平出和也さんと共にシスパーレ北東壁の未踏ルートを登攀し、その功績で平出さんと共にピオレドール賞を受賞しました。その後も新たな挑戦を続け、2019年にはラカポシ南壁の新ルートからの登頂を成功させ、再び共にピオレドール賞を受賞するという輝かしい業績を残しました。平出和也さんは、アルパインクライミングにおいて独自のスタイルを確立し、卓越した技術と精神力で多くの難関ルートを突破してきました。また、山岳カメラマンとしても多くの作品を残し、その映像は登山の美しさと厳しさを余すところなく伝え、アルパインクライミングの世界に新たな視点をもたらしました。
この二人の存在が日本山岳会のみならず、世界の登山界にとっても大きな財産であったことは言うまでもありません。二人の偉大な功績と精神は、これからの登山家たちにとって大きな指針となり、私たちの心の中で生き続けることでしょう。私たちは深い悲しみとともに、彼らが成し遂げた業績と、その歩みに対して深い敬意を表します。

We mourn the loss of two extraordinary mountaineers, Kenro Nakajima and Kazuya Hiraide, who have departed from our midst. As reported extensively by media around the world, they slipped and fell while pursuing a new route on the west face of K2—a tragedy that has left us with profound sorrow.
As Japan’s foremost alpine climbers, they accomplished numerous extraordinary feats, gaining the admiration of mountaineers worldwide. Kenro Nakajima devoted his life to conquering unexplored peaks, and in 2017, alongside Kazuya Hiraide, he successfully pioneered a new route on the northeast face of Shispare—an achievement that earned them both the prestigious Piolet d’Or award. Their pursuit of new challenges continued, and in 2019, they successfully summited a new route on the south face of Rakaposhi, earning them another Piolet d’Or together. Kazuya Hiraide developed a distinctive approach to alpine climbing, mastering numerous challenging routes with extraordinary skill and resilience. As a mountain photographer, he also produced many works that powerfully captured the beauty and severity of climbing, offering fresh perspectives to the alpine climbing community.
Their presence was undeniably a profound asset, enriching not only the alpine community in japan, including the Japanese Alpine Club (JAC), but also the global mountaineering world. Their remarkable achievements and enduring spirit will continue to inspire and guide future climbers, remaining forever in our hearts. We offer our deepest sorrow and highest respect for the incredible paths they forged and the accomplishments they attained.
